It’s back to school time, and that means new classes, new opportunities and new experiences. It is an exciting time, but you may also be feeling a bit anxious. Whether you are a nervous freshman or confident senior, pay attention to these back to school lessons. They may be the most important things you learn all year:
… with people who encourage you, support you and want you to do your best. The ones that make you laugh, build you up and are always there for you.
… with your teachers. They aren’t all jerks. In fact, some of them are probably pretty cool. They want you to succeed, and they are on your team.
… with yourself. You deserve your love and respect as much as anyone else. Be gentle with yourself, hush your inner critic and remember you are awesome (you are!).
… for what you believe in. Say what’s on your mind, even if your voice shakes. Stand tall, even if your knees shake. Listen to that inner voice – it knows what it’s talking about.
… for others. If you see someone who needs help, give it. Don’t be a bystander, be a hero. It’s way cooler than being a bully.
And lastly, remember that this is a new beginning for you. Embrace it! Don’t look back, you aren’t going in that direction. It doesn’t matter what you’ve done before, all that counts is where you go from here. Make it a great year!
